Imam Ibn Kathir, also known as Hafiz Imaduddin Abulfida, was born in 701 Hijri in Basra, Syria, and passed away in 774 Hijri in Damascus. Tafsir Ibn Kathir is widely recognized for its distinctive excellence, paralleling the significance of Sahih Bukhari within the realm of Hadith literature.

A notable historical anecdote illustrating the importance of deriving rulings from the Quran and Sunnah involves the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) sending Muaz ibn Jabal (ra) to Yemen. When questioned on his decision-making process, Muaz stated he would refer to the Quran. When asked what he would do if the answer was not found there, he replied he would turn to the Sunnah of the Prophet. Upon hearing Muaz's assurance that he would exercise independent reasoning (Ijtihad) if needed, the Prophet expressed gratitude to Allah for enabling Muaz to undertake what was favored by him.
